Advancing Spectrum Sharing
CENTRE FOR SHARED SPECTRUM INNOVATION
Empowering low and mid-band frequency access for mobile and wireless communications through technical research, policy engagement, and strategic innovation.
About
The Centre for Shared Spectrum Innovation (CSSI) is hosted and managed by StrathSDR at the University of Strathclyde. The Centre's roots go back to 2011, when the University of Strathclyde set up the Centre for White Space Communications (CWSC) to support and promote the shared use of TV White Space spectrum. CSSI is a natural evolution and re-branding of the Centre for White Space Communications, as the scope and use of spectrum sharing has extended beyond TV white space spectrum and is now being applied to various other spectrum bands.

Advancing Low and Mid-Band Spectrum Sharing
The Centre for Shared Spectrum Innovation is dedicated to promoting and advancing the efficient use of low and mid-band frequencies. We focus on technical insights and policy engagement to ensure that mobile and wireless communications in the UK benefit from a flexible, shared spectrum environment that meets the demands of a modern digital economy.
UK Spectrum Availability & Access
Frequency Allocation
The UK's spectrum landscape is defined by the Ofcom framework, which designates specific low and mid-band frequency blocks for mobile communications, ensuring high-capacity connectivity across the nation.
Access Methods
Access to these frequencies is facilitated through a combination of auctions, licensing, and shared access protocols, providing flexibility for diverse wireless service providers and innovators.
Technical Insights
Our research focuses on the technical feasibility of spectrum sharing, analyzing interference mitigation and the performance of low- and mid-band frequencies in modern wireless environments.
